Fitbit Blaze Review
26 Jul

The Fitbit Blaze is Fitbit’s first entry into the smartwatch arena. Looking like a cross between the Apple Watch and previous Fitbit models, as the name and manufacturer suggest, this Smartwatch’s main role is to help you smash your fitness goals. A smart fitness watch that helps you maximize every workout and every day. You get fitness-tracking features galore: Continuous activity functions, heart rate monitoring, sleep monitoring, calorie intake, onscreen workouts, and as a bonus to all this you get five days of continuous battery life. It’s a watch that is built to track your workouts, monitor your performance stats, and gauge your progress. Fitbit Blaze says it has everything you need to reach your goals, packed into one sleek timepiece. Is the Fitbit Blaze going after the Apple Watch crowd? After their fitness band popularity can they now conquer the smartwatch market?

Fitbit Blaze smartwatch iphoneAn already popular brand bringing out a product in an already hotly contested market could either go really well or really badly. The first thing that you will notice with the design is that it doesn’t really look like a Fitbit. It comes in 2 sizes: The small band is 5.5″- 6.7″ and the Large band is 6.7″- 8.1”. It can definitely be argued that the Fitbit Blaze looks similar to the Apple Watch, but this is a different breed of smartwatch to that of the LG Urbane and Motorola Moto 360. Its main focus… Fitness.
if you want something that doubles as both a fitness tracker and a stylish accessory, the Blaze is the way for you. With a decent colour display providing a choice of 4 different home screens it looks extremely smart, is functional as both a watch and a fitness tracker.  If you wanted more customisation from your watch (between the leather, stainless steel and original band ) It is easy to switch between them. The display is easy to view and is still visible under the Sun's intense glare. The Blaze is water-resistant, but not waterproof. This means that you cannot take it for a swim or wear it in the shower. It can handle a little bit of exposure to water, for example, it won't be affected by sweat during a workout.

The Fitbit Blaze has you covered for fitness features. Unlike some of the other “all purpose” smartwatches like the Apple Watch and Samsung Gear S2. It could be argued that the features that are on the most popular smartwatches already (activity tracking, monitoring, music control and notifications) are found in the Fitbit as well, but potentially done better.

The setup of the Blaze from unpacking to the first setup is a breeze. Register the watch with the Fitbit app and you’re off, not one step is wasted. It's as simple as that.

Here is a list of the key Features of the Smartwatch:
– Track steps, distance, calories burned, floors climbed and active minutes
– Get PurePulse(TM) continuous, wrist-based heart rate monitoring with no uncomfortable chest straps
– See simplified heart rate zones for quickly checking exercise intensity during workouts
– Use multi-sport tracking to track runs, cardio, cross-training, biking and more
– Effortlessly and automatically record workouts to your dashboard with SmartTrack
– Enable Connected GPS to map your routes and see run stats like pace and duration on display (when your phone is nearby)
– Start a FitStar workout on your wrist and get step-by-step instructions and graphics to ensure you complete each move correctly

You can control the music on your phone whilst exercising via the watch (pause/skip track/fast forward/increase and reduce volume) a bit finicky to setup but works fine once you’ve got it going. You can read text messages and see who is calling, reject or accept calls (Which ensures that you don't miss a call again.) At the moment you can't speak or hear through the watch, though, cancel or snooze alarms,  monitor steps taken/HR/Sleep pattern/log calorie intake/calories burned etc.

A list of the breakthrough and essential features on the Blaze:

– PurePulse Heart Rate
– Connected GPS
– On Screen Workouts
– Colour Touchscreen

– Smart Track

– All day activity & sleep
– Accessory Bands & Frames

The battery charge has lasted a full 5 days (as promised by Fitbit) which is amazing considering the unit has a colour display and it does everything as promised, seamlessly and effortlessly.

The Fitbit Blaze’s real groove is naturally in fitness. Collecting and presenting information about your daily activity and workouts. Choose from a wide range of activities including; running, biking, FitBit Blaze Fitness Watchelliptical, weights, or cardio. Just select the activity before you start. The automatic tracking feature (SmartTrak) is another outstanding addition. With the built-in heart rate monitor, your activities and calories burnt are automatically tracked  (in case you forget to manually start a workout on the watch). It logs the workout and provides a fairly good estimate of calories burnt and average/peak heart rate during the activity. When exercising outside it will show a whole plethora of information including time, distance, average speed, pace, heart rate – all easy to read on the screen. FitBit Blaze lets you know how hard you are working out. Even when you’re not “exercising” it tracks your daily routine and sleeping pattern which means it knows your overall health in exquisite detail, not just your cardio. This all means that you can track your fitness in a more accurate manner. The badges and trophies awarded are excellent motivational tools.

Here are the core components of the FitBit Blaze’s Fitness Features:

Connected GPS
Connect Blaze with the GPS on your phone to map your routes and see run stats like pace and duration on display.

PurePulse Heart Rate
Maximise workouts and continuous heart rate and simplified zones – all without an uncomfortable chest strap.

On-Screen Workouts With FitStar
Start a FitStar workout on Blaze and get step-by-step instructions and coaching right on your wrist.

Blaze uses SmartTrack to automatically recognise and record exercises for you, so you’ll get credit for a workout even if you forget to log it.

Choose from sport modes like running, biking and cardio to see real time stats on display.

Workout Goals + Summaries
Set weekly exercise goals and targets in the Fitbit App, then check your workout summaries on your Fitbit Blaze to see how your effort is adding up.

It is functional as both a watch and a fitness tracker and for all those gadget geeks out there it ticks all of the boxes. Allowing you to control the music on your phone whilst exercising via the watch (pause/skip track/fast forward/increase and reduce volume). You can read text messages and see who is calling, reject or accept calls (You can't speak or hear through the watch), monitor steps taken/HR/Sleep pattern/log calorie intake/calories burned etc.

So What’s theTake Away for the FitBit Blaze Fitness Functionality?…

Since wearing the watch there has been a noticeable increase in daily steps, 24/7 heart rate monitoring and monitoring of calorie intake because the Blaze makes it so effortless. It’s a great motivational tool and in our opinion one of the best-looking fitness trackers available on the market. It is understandable how it could be so motivational for increasing fitness activity and increasing weight loss. The Fitbit Application included is one of the best tested, along with the Garmin Connect and Polar Flow. It's easy to use, motivational and connects effortlessly to iPhone and Android phones. The set up is flawless and intuitive, there is an element of competitiveness if that floats your boat with plenty of groups to join, and even compete with your friends, family, and work colleagues. The Blaze is truly the first step towards a combination of fitness band and a watch.

– Hexagonal design may not be aesthetically pleasing
