VivaLNK launches medical wearable sensor platform – Medical Design & Outsourcing

VivaLNKVivaLNK (Campbell, Calif.) said today that it has launched a medical wearable sensor platform that includes a host of sensors, edge computing technologies, and an Internet of Health Things data cloud.

Officials at Campbell, Calif.–based VivaLNK described the platform as unique, saying that it captures data about human vitals and biometrics and delivers the data from the patient to edge computing devices as well as to the cloud. The data can then support application integration and analysis.

The sensor platform is available through the VivaLNK Developer Program. Companies taking advantage of it include Vitalic Medical, which is developing a bedside monitor for early detection of patient health deterioration and potential falls.

“Our growing aging patient population, rising complex health conditions, and increasing staff workloads make it challenging for medical professionals to detect early signs of patient deterioration and prevent falls,” Vitalic Medical CEO Sue Dafnias said in a news release.

“By leveraging VivaLNK wearable sensor within the Vitalic platform, Vitalic Medical can offer an early trigger system that helps nurses identify early signs of patient deterioration and fall-risk patients,” Dafnias said.

If companies are to successfully harness artificial intelligence and machine learning to address healthcare problems, it will be crucial for wearable devices collecting medical-grade data to easily connect with networked applications, according to VivaLNK.

“To have a more complete picture of patient health, applications and algorithms not only need access to data, but need a variety of relevant data that can be used to correlate and accurately assess and predict health situations,” said VivaLNK CEO Jiang Li.
